So just the other day, I was wondering why do we seek something so strongly even though we know it makes us weak, unhappy or miserable? And this thought crossed my mind more than once, for different reasons is when I decided to write about it.
These are my vices.
They bring me down. They make me weak. But realisation is one step closer to overcoming it right?
And since I’m not a big fan of really long posts I decided to split these into different chapters.
I hope I can reach out to you and we could help each other overcome our vices.
So here goes-
Addiction technically means compulsively seeking one thing, despite of its harmful consequences.
We all know about the most rampant of addictions like alcohol or drug abuse and we know how to get rid of them. Thats not what I’ll be talking about here.
The most recent of addictions which affects every single of us, knowlingly or unknowingly is something I wanted to put a light on so we can introspect and see for ourselves.
As a twenty something, following things are what takes up most of our lives-thoughts, time, money and energy.
They did consume mine too. They still do. I’m working on it.
So yeah these are-
1.Technology- According to latest research, people tend to check their phones 60-70 times a day on a average. It’s hard to forsee the tremendous toll it takes on our health; mental, physical and psychosocial.
2. Sugar- I’m pretty sure you know that sugar released the same “feel good” chemicals in the brain as that of cocaine and the level of addiction to sugar is anticipated to be as high as cocaine if not more.
3. Belonging, To someplace or someone- everyone has that speacial someone or something, which they are obsessed about. Inspite of knowing that it might not be very good for them. That kinda fits the definition of addiction doesn’t it?
